Finding scholarships for deserving young people is no easy task.  Even more difficult is finding a scholarship that fully funds four years of college expenses.  We have such a scholarship that is worth more than $225,000 and would like to provide you with more information on this incredible opportunity for qualified students.  The U. S. Coast Guard Academy does not require a CONGRESSIONAL appointment to attend.  Acceptance is based solely on an annual competition among top students across the nation. 

At the Coast Guard Academy, the challenge is to prepare cadets to take their place as leaders in a complex, changing global community.  Academic majors include civil engineering, electrical engineering, government, management, mathematics, marine and environmental sciences, mechanical engineering, naval architecture and marine engineering and operations research leading to a Bachelor of Science degree.  The curriculum is designed to be interactive, experiential, and exciting.

The United States Coast Guard Academy provides its graduates with a strong foundation for service as a Coast Guard Officer, professional practice and future study. 

Qualifications: U.S. citizen, 17-21 years of age, must pass medical and physical fitness exam, average Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT) and American College Test (ACT) scores - entering class: Math: SAT: 640; ACT: 27 Verbal: SAT: 544; ACT: 25. Over 90% of entering students are in the top 20% of their class. 

Academy Introduction Mission - Each summer the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary sponsors the Academy Introduction Mission (Project AIM). Project AIM is a six day program conducted twice in July at the Coast Guard Academy, New London , CT. Two separate programs will be offered, the first from 19 July – 25 July 2003 and the second from 26 July - 01 August, 2003 .

OCS: Officer Candidate School 

Requirements: 

  1. Be at least 21, but not have reached their 27th birthday.

  2. Civilian applicants must possess a bachelors degree or higher.

  3. Coast Guard enlisted applicants must possess a bachelors degree or meet the Temporary Commission requirements outlined in the Personnel Manual.

  4. Be a U.S. citizen.

  5. Pass the Officer Aptitude Rating Exam. 

Selections are based on the applicant’s GPA, achievements at college and/or in the workplace, character references, and a personal interview. Successful applicants attend 17 weeks of Officer Candidate School training at the United States Coast Guard Academy. Upon graduation, they are commissioned as ensigns and incur an eight year military service obligation of which three years will be on active duty.

"Recruiting Assistance Program"

RAP:  The Recruiting Assistance Program, developed to enable the Coast Guard Auxiliary to assist the Coast Guard Recruiting Force by referring qualified young men and women for a rewarding career in the Coast Guard or the Coast Guard Reserve. RAP operates through a contact and referral system. This process allows the Auxiliary to have input into the Active, Reserve, and officer programs.

The United States Coast Guard is looking for young men and women for enlistment. The Coast Guard is the country’s oldest continuous sea-going service with responsibilities including Search and Rescue (SAR), Maritime Law Enforcement, Aids to Navigation, Ice-Breaking, Environmental Protection, Port Security and Military Readiness. 

The following are the qualifications to join the United States Coast Guard. Each applicant must:

  1. Be a United States citizen or national, 

  2. Be between the ages of 17 - 27, (if you are 17, you will need parental consent 

  3. Have a high school diploma, 

  4. Have no more than 2 dependents. (You may have 3 dependents if you are enlisting as an E-4 or above). 

  5. Take and pass the Armed Service Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB), pass a medical physical, and 

  6. Be the type of person who wants to work for an organization that serves the public.
